I didn't have hot flushes during the day, but woke up sweating during the night. I also suffered from depressions, broke out into tears for no reasons until I decided to to hat a grip of the situation.
I kept a journal with my thoughts, changed the way I ate and added a lot of soy to my diet and generally foods that are rich in phytoestrogens, like beans, legumes, seaweed, yams, apples, potatoes, and carrots.
To fight my depressions I took a yoga class and also danced a lot whenever things went rough. ;)
Eventually things calmed down and looking back I think it was not so bad after all.
I didn't gain weight so far (its five years now) and feel as attractive and as alive and young as before. All the best!

Not everyone but many have hot flashes so intense they want to rip their clothes off. Wear layers even in winter. I almost only wear cardigan sweaters as my pullovers are annoying to keep putting on & taking off. You can be chilly when you're not boiling. It hits you in about 5 seconds. Avoid cafine if you can...inspires hot flashes as do most hot drinks. Speaking of drinks... booze not good for you either inspires hot flashes.

Because I'm so warm in bed I toss & turn a lot and have a ceiling fan with remote controls. That helps a lot. In the winter I was sleeping with the windows open. I even did that in N.Y. in the winter.

I took my temp. in my mouth while having a semi-intense hot flash. It was 103 degrees. I think it can be worse as I personally wasn't soaking wet hardly ever and many people are. My friend could feel the heat radiating off my body at about 10 inches away. Interesting huh ?

Excersize is good for easing the symptoms.

Have fun & good luck !

Major sweats especially at night. Some people are soaking wet. Doen't help trying to sleep either.

For some mood swings. I didn't have that. Oh, some women in their 70's say they still get hot flashes now and then. Bummer.
